Clyde Group in the News: Q1 2023 January–March

Welcome to the second edition of our new, quarterly roundup of Clyde Group in the News, where we look back at all of the impactful media hits our Clyde Group experts contributed to over the last three months. 

Our communications professionals have a wide range of expertise, as evidenced in the media coverage they received during the first quarter of 2023 — everything from January 6th commentary to multiple op-eds and interviews with our new Senior Vice President of Public Affairs, John Rizzo. A total of eight members of the Clyde Group team were featured in the news so far this year on a variety of topics, ranging from cryptocurrencies to performative diversity to a historic partnership at an HBCU in Alabama. 

We kicked off 2023 with a new years article that included Clyde Group President and COO Michael O’Mara. He chatted with The Washington Business Journal in their survey of resolutions and predictions for the upcoming year, where he implored executives to maintain focus on growing new business despite economic worries. 

It was a busy quarter for the financial services sector, with trending topics such as the failure of Silicon Valley Bank and cryptocurrency-related news. Rizzo commented on the biggest financial services–related story of the year, the meltdown of Silicon Valley Bank, in interviews with both TIME Magazine and The Business Journals. Rizzo also spoke with Axios Crypto and Politico regarding crypto legislation, and penned an op-ed in Coindesk that focused on crypto-related laws. Additionally, he provided his expertise to Yahoo! Finance on the debt ceiling, a topic that he focused on heavily while working at the Treasury Department. Along with Rizzo’s online hits, he was a featured panelist on Jon Stewart’s Apple TV+ program, “The Problem with Jon Stewart” , joining a star-studded panel to discuss inflation and the state of the economy.   

Both Senior Vice President Jenny Wang and Vice President of People and Culture Cash Taylor discussed diversity in the workplace with PRNews. Wang commented on the industry trend of companies using diverse imagery while not promoting actual diversity in the workplace for an article in PRNews. Taylor was also featured in an article discussing the concrete steps Clyde Group is taking to promote diversity in its hiring and interviewing process. 

Managing Director Anthony LaFauce, Clyde’s in-house expert on emerging technologies, penned an op-ed in PRNews on How Technology Can Be a Force Multiplier in PR. In his piece, LaFauce argued that PR pros should not fear technological developments in AI, but instead work to understand how best to leverage this nascent technology moving forward. 

Matt House, Managing Director of Public Affairs, provided his expertise to The Hill, speaking on how the Democratic Party should approach Senate elections in the fast-approaching 2024 election cycle. He also spoke with Roll Call, referring back to his days on Capitol Hill when talking on the impact of the House’s January 6th Committee. 

Finally, Assistant Account Executive Keila Lawrence was quoted for an article in Southern Jewish Life Magazine announcing the relaunching of the Dillard University National Center for Black-Jewish Relations. And, making it in just under the wire, Senior Vice President Lauren Hovey wrote an article in PRNews on “April Fools’: Mistakes to Avoid and Tips for Brand Success”. Hovey detailed how companies can take advantage of the fun possibilities of April Fools’ Day observances while not risking corporate reputation and the development of new business.

Looking ahead to Q2 2023, we have some upcoming coverage on Clyde Group’s newest hire, Senior Vice President of Creative and Digital Marianne Kaiser. And there will surely be more of our industry experts talking about changes and challenges in PR this year. Stay tuned for more!
